One of my favourites ! An ice tomb Art: Rise of the Tomb Raider

Hi, Tomb Raider fans! I decided to make weekly updates to my fansite that will be directly from Crystal Dynamics. They’ve implemented a weekly newsletter again, which allows me to add the highlights to my website for all the fans enjoyment and information. I want my news about Tomb Raider to come from official sources and what could be better than directly from the game source itself? Of course, I only report CD approved for the public material. I intend to make this fansite as informative as possible. This shall be the page to find all Weekly Wrap Up info. Book Mark this page to see the latest.

To kick off this new section here is the latest from the week of 4/8/2016

As many of you know the horror driven DLC “Cold Darkness Awakened” debuted on Tuesday, March 29th! It also happened to be the third major DLC release for Rise of the Tomb Raider!
Last week, GameSpot hosted a livestream of the latest DLC on their site andIGN showed off the first seven minutes of gameplay!

Here’s the description of this spooky new expedition mode:

Decommissioned during the Cold War, a dormant weapons research base has been breached, unleashing a mysterious affliction into the Siberian wilderness that transforms men into blood-thirsty, mindless killers. Lara must overcome increasingly dangerous waves of these infected adversaries while scavenging their equipment and crafting additional gear on the fly, in kill or be killed survival-combat. Fight for your life against new enemies and complete new challenges, while discovering a way to stop or perhaps even reverse this impending catastrophe.

Also, Melonie Mac did some live streaming of the DLC. Check this out!

Additionally, on Tuesday, CD announced their plans to celebrate 20 years of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft. There was a lovely logo created for the 20th celebration. As seen here:

Crystal Dynamics shall be celebrating the occasion with festivities throughout 2016, starting with PAX East this April.

“We look forward to celebrating with fans, and honoring the iconic Lara Croft with special events, retrospectives, giveaways and other surprises throughout this year of Tomb Raider.” Ron Rosenberg

“It’s incredible to be part of this legend and to see how much the series has evolved over time, and think about what’s yet to come. Here’s to 20 more years of adventure together.”Scot Amos

Also, CD announced their partnership with GameChanger Charity to provide donors with a free digital copy of Tomb Raider 2013 for every contribution made to the charity in excess of $1. A non-profit focused on improving the lives of children suffering from life-threatening diseases, GameChanger delivers video game gifts to hospitals, and provides financial support to deserving families.

Due to overwhelming support, all Tomb Raider codes were handed out in a single day, raising over $37,000 for GameChanger Charity! Even though the codes are gone, we are still encouraging the community to continue aiding GameChanger in their efforts to help children and families battling cancer.

CD’s new hashtag #TombRaider20 is already being utilized by fans around the world! CD looks forward to more fans sharing their memories and experiences as Tomb Raider festivities continue through 2016. Share your favorite franchise memories now by using #TombRaider20 and spread the Tomb Raider love!

Another outstanding headline for Tomb Raider franchise:

It is reported that the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, NY has announced the fifteen finalists for this year’s Video Game Hall of Fame class. The roster is a who’s who of classic titles and Tomb Raider has been listed as a finalist! Other finalists include Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, and more. Click here for the complete list of finalists.

The winners, which are selected by a panel of journalists, academics, and others familiar with the video game industry, will be announced on Thursday, May 5.

Pictured on Left: Check out this candid photo of Animator Taylor Holmes rigging a new mocap suit. This was his second attempt after getting a hands-on training with fellow Animator, Stefan Iverson. While most of our motion capture is completed off site at Digital Domain, we periodically do pickups here at the office.

Pictured on Right: Our Narrative Team took home a Writers Guild of America award for Outstanding Achievement in Video Game Writing this February. Check out this snapshot of the awards envelope Silicon Valley’s Kumail Nanjiani handed to Lead Narrative Designer, John Stafford, on behalf of the Rise of the Tomb Raider Narrative Team.
