[New]Weekly Wrap-Up! Issue#4

Once again we find ourselves at another Weekly Wrap-Up! I am excited to say this is the 4th issue! Well, what can I say about the previous week? Plenty that’s what! As any Tomb Raider fan knows the big buzz throughout Tomb Raider recently was Pax East! There were many things learned and many fine panelists bestowing their information and exciting contributions to the Tomb Raider community. Let’s get started to find out how to leave Tomb Raider Uncovered for this week!

NM

This is something wonderful this way come! I cannot wait to get this album. Here is the information from Crystal Dynamics!

Revealed last week at the PAX East panel, original franchise composer Nathan McCree is returning to his roots with a new musical endeavor titled, “The Tomb Raider Suite.”

The collection will include all classic compositions, as well as extensions and variations of original tracks from the first three Tomb Raider titles. The suite will then be recorded by a live orchestra at the famous Abbey Road Studios, and released for purchase on CD and digital download this autumn.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the fans, as well as me, to hear the music as I had always intended it,” said McCree.

Alongside the album, a live performance of the suite is planned at a major venue in London to correspond with the official 20th anniversary of the original Tomb Raider’s release in 1996. More details and ticketing information will be made available at a later date.

The entire process – from re-composing the tracks to the final live concert – will be recorded for a TV documentary called Tomb Raider: Remastered. Director Matthew Longfellow, a leader in music documentaries for his work with legends such as Pink Floyd, Metallica, and Queen, will take the helm of the documentary.

PAX EAST TREAT: TOMB RAIDER: THE TRILOGY (1998)

This is certainly a great treat for any Tomb Raider fan! The following video is exclusive and something that has not been seen until recently!

Produced in 1998 by Silver Films for the Tomb Raider III launch party, The Trilogy was never screened outside the event at the Natural History Museum in London that evening. Thanks to Producer Janey de Nordwall, who recently found the original digibeta tape, we’re able to share the short online in its original quality for the first time. de Nordwall went on to win a BAFTA for her production work and now runs the British Arrow Awards.

Tomb Raider: The Trilogy captured the spirit of the Tomb Raider phenomenon and impact of Lara Croft in the late 90s, wrapped up in a detective-noir setting.

Magazine Cover Update!!!!

unnamed

We’re now at 650 magazines in our collection and are more than halfway to reaching our goal of over 1,000 covers in the collection! Help be a part of Tomb Raider history by adding your Lara Croft magazine covers to our Flickr collection!

If members of your community have magazine covers they would like to contribute, please help us by gathering links to the relevant flickr albums and sending us an e-mail with all the links. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. We’re ecstatic to see the results of this community collaboration!

Please ensure the album with the magazine covers you want to share is PUBLICso that other contributors can see which magazines are already in the collection.

As part of our 20 year celebration, we’ve been trying to get a good count on how many covers Lara Croft has been on over the last two decades. We’ve found it to be almost impossible to track, and want to enlist your help!

We’d love for you to scan and upload the covers (covers only, no interiors) to Flickr which allows uncompressed image uploads. You can create a Flickr account for free if you don’t have one yet. Once you’ve uploaded them, send us a link to your dedicated album of Tomb Raider covers, and we’ll select those we don’t have in the collection yet and favorite them as a means to adding them to a single feed. Meagan uploaded a few to her own account so that you can see what we’re aiming for here.

A few notes:

  • These can be any magazine with images of Lara Croft or Tomb Raider on them related to the Tomb Raider games, comics, movies, or merchandise. Even covers with Angelina Jolie on them count, as long as they are billed as an interview about Tomb Raider. The only thing we won’t accept is adult magazines with ties to Tomb Raider.
  • The cover can be shared with another gaming character, as long as Lara takes up at least half of the image.
  • Please ensure the cover doesn’t have a mailing address on it. If it does, please Photoshop or obscure any personal details prior to scanning.
  • In the title of the image, please put the magazine name, issue number, and month/date of release. In the caption, please put the country it is from.

You can watermark the cover image if it is a rare image, but please put it somewhere small and inconspicuous so that it doesn’t detract from the overall design. We want this to feel like an art gallery.
